Wake Forest University’s Center for the Study of Capitalism adds executive advisors

September 21, 2022

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – (September 21, 2022) – The Wake Forest University Center for the Study of Capitalism (CSC) today announced the formation of an executive advisory committee to include Maria Ghazal, Alex Wilson, Bob Baker, Johnson “Jay” Cooper and Robert Wall.

“The new advisors combined with the existing council bring an invaluable level of expertise to the Center for the Study of Capitalism,” said Christina Elson, Executive Director of the CSC. “We’re excited to have them on board as we continue growing the reach and impact of our mission.”

As Senior Vice President and Counsel at Business Roundtable, Ghazal brings extensive experience on the nexus between capitalism and public policy, including corporate governance and the role of business in creating jobs, opportunity, and economic security. As a young and successful entrepreneur whose innovative blockchain organization benefits non-profits, Wilson of The Giving Block epitomizes Wake Forest’s motto Pro Humanitate and the business school’s ideal of “do well and do good.” Baker, a seasoned executive in university development, will expertly advise the CSC on funding opportunities that support the Center’s mission and strategic plan. Cooper, the CEO of Green Hills Partners, is a champion for free markets and mission-driven and philanthropic organizations and will offer his expertise in strategic and financial planning. Wall, a local Wake Forest alumnus and advocate for capitalism, is a partner with Akerman LLP and will advise the Center in its alumni outreach efforts.

“I am thrilled to join the executive advisory committee for the Center for the Study of Capitalism – and for the opportunity to serve with such a distinguished group of executive experts,” Ghazal stated. “Capitalism has delivered more benefits to more people than any other organizational system in human history. I believe in the Center’s mission to better understand and clearly articulate how this remarkable system works.”

Executive advisors are an integral part of CSC’s public profile. Ghazal, Wilson, Baker, Cooper, and Wall join the distinguished CSC Executive Council: CSC founder John A. Allison, Warren Stephens, and Billy Prim.

CSC is dedicated to helping find solutions to the issues that cloud the future of U.S. capitalism, from access, fairness, and equality to bridging the technology gap and ensuring a steady and equitable flow of capital. Visit the Center’s website to learn more about its impact.
